Farook is a management consultant by profession – but a wannabe social entrepreneur/change agent: wanting to stop the intolerables in our society against those that just don’t have the ability, capacity or capability.

He started life as a potential Astrophysicist but then realised that life as a lab tech would not facility economic growth of his family and so changed to Computer Science at University of Hertfordshire. During his industrial placement he discovered Management Consultancy and has been one since

In 1996 he took a leave of absence for 6 weeks, which turned out to be 9 months of travel around Central Asia. This journey gave him perspective and a resolve to begin to get ‘involved’ and try and change the world around him.

He also met his soul mate, Nisha and they got married within 6 months. Sadly at the end of July 2004 Nisha was diagnosed with Leukaemia and after a tough fight he lost her that October.

Find The Time, a bone marrow donor appeal was inspired by the fight Nisha made and also through the realisation that so many communities are under represented and all it takes is a small 4ml sample of blood to be tested and give some a life saving option if there is match.

His aim to significantly increase the number of bone marrow donors from communities which are under represented on the bone marrow register. So his organisation has recruited over 1,000 bone marrow donors and in June this year they got a match for an Asian patient. This has been a real motivator for all involved with Find The Time and personally really lifted his spirits.

Over the last 10 years he has been involved in five start ups (2 Management Consultancies, 2 IT/Web companies and 1 Charity) and is still involved with three of them. He has also been a Board Member of a community education board.

He loves world music and meeting people and understanding what makes them tick. But he always need time to be by himself and recharge.

From the India Journey he expects a number of growth opportunities: firstly being amongst people who have a passion for changing the world and jointly understanding how others are doing it; secondly he would like to get involved with a project with beneficiaries in either India or Africa. So seeing projects in action in India will give him a great insight; thirdly an opportunity to share learnings and build a network with like minded people across UK and India. In many respects ‘life is too short’ has come to have a much deeper and personal meaning for him and he would like to spend more of his time in helping people make most of the time that they have.
