Jo Goodison

Blogger profile

After a career in Sales Management & Marketing spanning 17 years Jo made a complete career change when she joined the voluntary & community sector. She works part-time for South Yorkshire Women's Development Trust, an organisation that provides basic training in construction skills for women, & has re-trained as a tutor and delivers classes in the community. Whilst working for this organisation she has seen many women move on to further training in the trades who, once they have completed their vocational training, then hit a stumbling block when trying to enter into employment, whether that be self-employment or working for someone else. Some of these 'blocks' are to do with self-confidence, some are around discrimination & harassment in the workplace and some because the construction industry still has a way to go to make the site area 'woman friendly'.

Tradeswomen South Yorkshire (formerly Women into Tools) provides networking, mentoring & support to enable women who have trained, or are training in a 'non-traditional' trade, to access further training, work as part of a social enterprise and / or support them into self employment.
