Blogger profile

Nathalie runs ‘On Road Media', a new social enterprise that trains and employs reporters who are at the centre of the stories they're covering. They make documentaries for mainstream radio (‘On Road Media' is a registered supplier for the BBC) and work with the third sector to promote their issues through ‘citizen media' - audio online or podcasting. The company's central belief is that grassroots people with first hand knowledge of the issues at hand are best-placed to tell their stories, whether it's on mainstream radio or through the internet. Their team offers unique citizen journalism training programmes designed to get people from any background to produce exciting audio themselves from the word go.

Originally from Dublin, Nathalie came to London six years ago to do an MA in International Journalism from City University. In 2002 she took up a visiting lecturer's post at City's journalism department and joined the BBC as a freelance producer for Radio Five Live's Breakfast programme. She has also trained journalists in Sudan for the BBC World Service.

Nathalie went on to set up the Prison Radio Outreach Project (PROP) at HMP Wandsworth for Radio for Development where she worked for three years. It was an integral part of the UK's first speech-based prison radio station that supports ex-offenders into education and employment on release. She then joined the School for Social Entrepreneurs to set up ‘On Road Media', which has been supported by Unltd Level 1 & 2 awards.
