I work as a facilitator and trainer in the construction and engineering industry, helping people to achieve the most out of large-scale collaborations and projects. I incorporate techniques from my studies in positive psychology that show the influence of positive emotion on productivity, creativity, health and happiness.
As a Laughter Yoga Leader I believe passionately in the health benefits of laughing and happiness for both mind and body. So many of us treat happiness as if it is frivolous or an optional extra that has little to do with real life. I believe that happiness is too important to be treated this way or left to happenstance. So, some time ago, I was curious as to what would happen if I introduced novel concepts to my health work with people such as helping them to establish resourceful states of mind and behaviours that would increase their happiness and resilience. People responded well, becoming happier, more motivated and better able to handle stress.
Many studies and statistics highlight the stresses and negative impact on health and happiness of being a carer. I set up the Happystance project so that I could work with groups of carers to appreciate the health benefits of an optimistic outlook and using techniques from positive psychology for stress relief. Happier individuals make for a happier community that has benefits for all of us!
