The Ignite Awards delivered by UnLtd and supported by The Atlantic Philanthropies recognise, support and develop the integral role of older social entrepreneurs.

UnLtd Road Safety Challenge Awards

What are the UnLtd Road Safety Challenge Awards?

The UnLtd Road Safety Challenge Awards have been established to support communities to develop solutions to their road safety issues.
Applications for awards are open to individuals, informal/formal community groups and voluntary groups with innovative solutions to road safety issues.
These Awards have been established in partnership with the Department of the Environment – Road Safety Division.
The key aims of the Awards are to support and invest in the motivation of individuals and groups who are passionate about road safety and its issues, and to bring about community impact in crucial road safety areas.
The key focus for anyone considering applying for the Awards should be the Northern Ireland Road Safety Strategy, which can be found at
www.roadsafetyni.gov.uk

Sample areas for consideration are

• Safety for children
• Safety for pedestrians and other vulnerable road users
• Better driver testing, training and licensing
• Better driver behaviour
  Safer speeds
  Combating drink, drugs and drowsiness
  Combating dangerous and careless driving
• Safer roads infrastructure
• Safer vehicles

What Awards are available?

Catalyst Awards: (£500 - £5,000)

Catalyst Awards are aimed at energetic, driven and committed individuals or groups who have an idea and need help getting it off the ground.
The Award money is to help with running costs of the project and our Development Managers offer one-to-one guidance throughout the course of the Award.

Development Awards: (£5,000-£15,000)

Development Awards are up to £15,000 to support individuals or groups with existing and developed projects that are scalable.
UnLtd will support you in growing your project idea through a dedicated Development Manager, who will design a support package tailored to your needs and enable you to drive forward your vision of improved road safety.

Who can apply?

Applicants must be:

• Over the age of 16
• Living in Northern Ireland
• Applying as an individual, an individual from an organisation or a formal or informal community or voluntary group

To be eligible your project must:

• Have a real impact on road safety, and
• Fulfil a clear road safety need and demand, and
• Have clear outputs and goals linked to the Road Safety Strategy.
• Provide a learning experience or opportunity.

Projects are not eligible for an Award if they:

• Are part of your paid employment.
• Involve political or religious campaigning.
• Involve activities outside the law or against public policy, or anything that encourages ethnic, religious or commercial disharmony.
• Involve employing people other than yourself to carry out most of the project work.
• Are mainly for people to achieve academic qualifications

Please note that as this is a DoE-funded programme:

• All Award Winner project funds must be appropriately spent in line with agreed project outputs by 31st March 2011
• All funds not spent by 31st March or not appropriately spent must be returned to the DOE.
• All Award Winners are required to set up a dedicated non-interest earning bank account
• Catalyst and Development Awards are now open.
