UnLtd MBA Internship Programme 2007

Each summer, UnLtd offers a select group of MBA students the opportunity to join our Internship Programme. This scheme provides first-hand experience of what it is like to be a social entrepreneur, a unique insight into the sector, and the opportunity to contribute to some of the UK’s most innovative community projects.

In 2007, successful applicants will have two options:

1. To work alongside UnLtd's consultancy division, UnLtd Ventures, on consulting engagements with one or more of the team's projects.
  • Interns will work with social entrepreneurs across the UK to help solve one or more strategic, financial or operational issues with their projects.
  • For further information about our projects, please visit the current projects and case studies sections of this site.
  • 1 internship place is available.

2. To work with UnLtd’s Business Operations Director on one or more strategic projects within the organisation.
  • The intern will act as an internal consultant, tackling one or more strategic issues within UnLtd. This is likely to involve research, interviews with staff, Award Winners (with possible travel around the country) and other external resources as required, and presenting a set of recommendations or findings to the Senior Management Team.
  • 1 internship place is available.
McKinsey & Co and Goldman Sachs Asset Management, organisations with whom we have a close relationship, will provide customised training for our interns.

As part of the Programme, we will also be hosting a networking event with other MBA interns working in the social entrepreneurship / not-for-profit sector and interns working with McKinsey & Co and Goldman Sachs Asset Management.

For candidates at schools without not-for-profit summer internship bursaries or scholarships, UnLtd will provide up to £3,500 to cover accommodation and living expenses, as well as some assistance with travel from country of residence.

The Programme will run for 8 weeks from June/July and will be based at UnLtd’s London office, although some travelling may be required.

Please note: We can only consider candidates who have the right to work in the UK. US-based applicants may be able to obtain work visas through BUNAC's Work in Britain scheme.

The deadline for applications is 15 March 2007.
In previous years we have received applications from MBA students at schools including Harvard, Wharton, Stanford, Yale, Columbia, INSEAD, IESE, London Business School and Oxford, among others.

Please complete our online application form and email your CV/resume and cover letter to mbainternships@unltd.org.uk

Some of our previous interns:

"Whilst at UnLtd, I was given the opportunity to provide support to a number of different social entrepreneurs. For some, this involved 1-day workshops where I helped in various areas including marketing, financial modelling and business plan writing. For one, I spent several days compiling a report on child poverty to help identify and quantify the target audience for her charity, Magic Breakfast. The atmosphere here at UnLtd is great and the work has been both interesting and varied." Sonny Bardhan, Said Business School, Oxford MBA, UnLtd intern July-September 2005.

"I spent the summer working with the ventures team at UnLtd, and I think I struggle to simply put in a few words what it meant or how it affected my life. From day one I was allowed to contribute, my co workers listened, and my boss supported me. The clients I worked with were inspirational in their achievements and grateful for the help we had to offer. It is an amazing organization, and feels very much like a family to me, in which I still feel strongly a part. The network of people who connect through the work we do is remarkable, the work itself is challenging and meaningful and real, and the environment there makes you happy to get up and go to work each day. Many business school students complain about their internships, about the rigors of the work, the challenges of working with people they don't like. This is all foreign to me." Zachary Dominitz, London Business School MBA, UnLtd intern June-September 2005.

"The main reason that I undertook an internship at UnLtd was that I wanted to do something unlike anything that I had ever done before. I wanted to apply my experience and MBA skills to a unique opportunity that I personally found very inspiring. The opportunities that I got at UnLtd exceeded my expectations completely. I had the chance to work directly with The Hub, a unique incubator for social enterprises in London and I also had frequent opportunities to extend my network by meeting and working with many leading social entrepreneurs in London. I am passionate about Social Entrepreneurship and the opportunity of working at UnLtd is something that I will always be grateful for." Jackson Carroll, London Business School MBA, UnLtd intern July-September 2006.

"UnLtd Ventures works with some of the UK’s most promising social entrepreneurs to help them grow their organisations to scale and deliver significant social impact. We are a team of skilled professionals, with both private and third sector backgrounds and provide a range of hands-on and consulting style support, advice and networking opportunities to our clients. I believe UnLtd Ventures offers a unique opportunity for MBA students to work with inspiring social entrepreneurs and gain first-hand insight of the third sector. Who knows, they may be so inspired that they set up their own social businesses once they’ve completed their MBAs!"
Sarah Dodds, INSEAD MBA, Director of UnLtd Ventures.

JulieJulie McEver
"UnLtd is at a very exciting point in its history. The organisation has a solid foundation and has been growing quickly. There are many great opportunities for the future and lots of achievements to reflect upon. I look forward to working with an MBA Intern to help determine the way forward. There is little doubt in my mind that working with UnLtd will give someone not only an insight into social entrepreneurship but also the Third Sector." Julie McEver, London Business School MBA, Director of Business Operations.
