We're excited to announce that Mark Norbury has been appointed as our new Chief Executive starting in May 2016.
Mark joins UnLtd with extensive experience in the charity and social enterprise sectors, most recently as Chief Executive of CW+, the charity for Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. Mark and his team successfully introduced social enterprise into CW+'s work, designing and delivering the UK's first successful health social impact bond and supporting clinicians in the development of social ventures across retinal diagnostics, laser surgery and maternity emergencies.
Prior to this he was the first salaried partner at Leader's Quest, building leadership among CEOs, boards and directors as well as social entrepreneurs around the world. He was also a Trustee of the foundation of social investor Bridges Ventures, overseeing Bridges' Social Entrepreneurs' Fund and its portfolio of investments, as well as taking on early roles at the British Red Cross and Diabetes UK.
Mark will bring this broad experience in developing leaders and creating social impact to UnLtd as we move to deliver our new strategy, helping social entrepreneurs to become a vibrant and valued part of society.
Mark commented, "It's a privilege and a challenge to continue the great work UnLtd is doing in finding, funding and supporting early stage social entrepreneurs. Now the challenge is to help social entrepreneurship break into the mainstream, helping social entrepreneurs to become recognised and valued so they can fulfil their potential to do good. I'm looking forward to working within such a vibrant and innovative sector and working together to explore how we can create the dramatic social impact we want to see."
Mark takes over from Cliff Prior, who announced earler this year that he would be taking up a post at social investment bank Big Society Capital following nine years in post at UnLtd. Since our foundation in 2001 we have supported over 13,000 social entrepreneurs alongside our partners and built up a national and international network of hundreds of supporters. In November, we published a new strategy for 2015 and beyond, Going Mainstream: how can social entrepreneurship break through?
Martin Wyn Griffith, Chair of the Board of Trustees of UnLtd, added, "I am delighted to welcome Mark on board as the new Chief Executive at UnLtd. We have a powerful mission to unleash the energies of passionate people with entrepreneurial solutions to social problems, people we call social entrepreneurs. Mark's experience developing strong social leaders and finding opportunities for innovation to thrive in an era of austerity will be fantastic assets in helping us to achieve our goals. As we enter an exciting new phase of our work, I believe that his passion, energy and commitment to our cause puts us in a strong position to help social entrepreneurs break into the mainstream."
